SAN JUAN BAUTISTA, CALIFORNIA

This episode of Big Blend Radio aired live on Sept. 8, 2017 and focuses on San Benito County, gateway to Pinnacles National Park in Central California.

Incorporated in 1869 and known as “The City of History,” San Juan Bautista is located on the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail in San Benito County, near the city of Hollister and about a 45 minute drive to the eastern entrance of Pinnacles National Park.

Surrounded by organic farms and vineyards, this charming historic village features boutique shops and galleries, bakeries and restaurants, and is home to the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park, the Old Mission San Juan Bautista, and the Anza Hiking Trail. During the Mexican period, San Juan Bautista served as the military and commercial center of the San Benito Valley. Many of the historic buildings in San Juan Bautista State Historic Park are representative of this blend of cultures and noteworthy happenings. Adjacent to the park sits the Old Mission San Juan Bautista that was built in 1797. The fifteenth and largest mission church in California, it was also the site where the old movie ‘Vertigo’ was filmed. A short section of El Camino Real (The King’s Highway) is located near the entrance of the Old Mission. A great way to get to know the village, is to take a self-guided walking tour of the historic sites and buildings. Learn more at www.DiscoverSanBenitoCounty.com.
