Ohio was the 17th state admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803, is historically known as the “Buckeye State” after its Ohio buckeye trees. Lake Erie gives Ohio 312 miles of coastline and it is home to 12 National Park Units.
There are approximately 69 State Parks, 21 State Forests and 12 State Memorials; 1 National Forests, 4 National Wildlife Refuges, and 3 Wild & Scenic Rivers. In addition, there are approximately 3900 Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 76 National Historic Landmarks, and 23 National Natural Landmarks.
