EXPLORE NORTH CAROLINA!
North Carolina became our 12th state on November 21, 1789. It is home to Mount Mitchell, the highest point in North America east of the Mississippi River, as well as the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Black Mountains. There are 14 National Parks in the state. The coast line is dangerous and so many ships have been lost off Cape Hatteras that the area is now known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic.”

“Carolina! Carolina! Heaven’s blessings attend her! While we live we will cherish, protect and defend her; Though the scorner may sneer at and witlings defame her, Our hearts swell with gladness whenever we name her. Hurrah! Hurrah! The Old North State forever! Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!” by William Gaston.
