
There are 14 National Park Units in North Carolina, which include the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. Historic sites include the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Moores Creek National Battlefield and the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
North Carolina is also home to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area and 2 National Seashores, Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Cape Lookout National Seashore. There are 3 National Trails that run through the state, the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and the Trail Of Tears National Historic Trail plus there is the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor.
North Carolina has 35 State Parks and 4 State Recreation Areas, 4 National Forests, 11 National Wildlife Refuges, and 5 Wild & Scenic Rivers.There are approximately 2,900 Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 39 National Historic Landmarks, 13 National Natural Landmarks, and 1 World Heritage Site.
