Mississippi is home to 11 National Park Units which includes 1 National Historical Park, Natchez National Historical Park, and 3 National Military Parks, Natchez National Historical Park, Shiloh National Military Park and Vicksburg National Military Park. There are 3 Heritage Areas, the Mississippi Delta Heritage Area, Mississippi Gulf Heritage Area, and the Mississippi Hills Heritage Area. There are 2 National Battlefield sites, Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield Site and Tupelo National Battlefield, as well as the Natchez Trace Parkway, the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail, and the Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Mississippi is also home to 21 State Parks, 2 State Wildlife Areas, 8 State Wildlife Management Areas, 6 National Forests, and 9 National Wildlife Refuges. There are approximately 1,414 places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 40 National Historic Landmarks, and 5 National Natural Landmarks.
