California National Parks & Public Lands

California is home to approximately 34 units within the National Park Service, 280 State Parks, 18 National Forests, 39 National Wildlife Refuges, 9 Wild & Scenic Rivers, 1 National Seashore, 4 National Trails, 2,810 Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 147 National Historic Landmarks, 36 National Natural Landmarks, and 2 World Heritage Sites.

From the San Francisco Bay Area and wine country, up the North Coast to the Shasta Cascade mountain region, Northern California’s National Park Service units include: Alcatraz Island, Eugene O’Neill National Historic Site, Fort Point National Historic Site, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, John Muir National Historic Site , Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, Muir Woods National Monument, Point Reyes National Seashore, Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial, Presidio of San Francisco, Redwood National & State Parks, Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, Tule Lake Unit of WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument, and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. 

From the rugged central coast to the agricultural valley, and east to Sacramento, the Gold Rush and High Sierra regions, Central California’s National Park Service units include: César E. Chávez National Monument, Channel Islands National Park, Devils Postpile National Monument, Kings Canyon National Park, Manzanar National Historic Site, Pinnacles National Park, Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park.

From the sunny beaches to the Inland Empire and vast desert region, Southern California’s National Park Service units include: Cabrillo National Monument, Castle Mountains National Monument, Death Valley National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave National Preserve, and Santa Monica National Recreation Area.

The four National Historic Trails California include the California National Historic Trail, Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, Old Spanish National Historic Trail, and Pony Express National Historic Trail.
