YUMA PUBLIC ART TOUR
A Love Your Parks Tour Public Art Story assigned by contemporary figurative artist Victoria Chick
Dubbed the “Gateway to the Great Southwest,” Yuma rests along the lower Colorado River in southwest Arizona. This destination is rich in history, diverse in culture, and active with numerous outdoor activities. Listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the ‘Sunniest Place on Earth’ makes it a popular destination for sun-seekers, especially during the winter months.
Yuma is also becoming an art destination. Part of the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, the historic downtown district bustles with an eclectic array of shops and restaurants, the award-winning Yuma Art Center and Historic Yuma Theater, as well as a vibrant collection of sculptures and murals that share the history and cultural heritage of the region. Thanks to the financial investment of local businesses and organizations, along with the creative DIY spirit of the city’s youth and community, there are now over 40 public art installations and murals throughout Yuma. You can take a self-guided tour by downloading the Yuma Public Art Map created by the Yuma Art Center. What a terrific way to explore this beautiful desert city!
