West Virginia has 2 National Scenic Rivers, the Bluestone National Scenic River, and the New River Gorge National River. There are 2 parks, the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park and the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. It is home to the Chesapeake Bay and the Gauley River National Recreation Area; plus 2 Heritage Sites, Coal National Heritage Area and the Wheeling National Heritage Area. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail also runs through the state.
There are 37 State Parks and 8 State Forests, 3 National Forests, 2 National Wildlife Refuges, and 1 Wild & Scenic Rivers. There are 55 Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 16 National Historic Landmarks, and 15 National Natural Landmarks.
