Virginia State Travel Guide

EXPLORE VIRGINIA!
Virginia is nicknamed the “Mother of Presidents” as more than 8 presidents were born here, more than any other state, and it is one of the original colonies. The state stretches from Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian Mountains. It became our 10th State on June 25, 1788. It is home to 22 National Park units ranging from National Parks to Historical Parks, National Monuments to National Parkways to even a Farm.

In addition, there are 38 State Parks and 24 State Forests, 2 National Forests, and 14 National Wildlife Refuges. There are also 3027 Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 120 National Historic Landmarks, 10 National Natural Landmarks, and 1 World Heritage Site.

“Carry me back to old Virginia, There’s where the cotton and the corn and taters grow, There’s where the birds warble sweet in the springtime, There’s where this old darkey’s heart am long’d to go.” James Bland
