June Wolfe shares on Big Blend Radio, how the community, students and City of Yuma, Arizona worked together to build and the rebuild the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground, a unique ADA playground that’s named in honor of her late husband.

Also known as Castle Park, the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground is a unique ADA playground located in West Wetlands Park, which is part of the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area in Yuma, Arizona.  It has been recognized as one of the largest creative playgrounds, as well as one of the top 20 playgrounds in the country, for being “impressive, accessible and inclusive.”

Listen to the Big Blend Radio interview with June Wolfe who shares how in 2007, around 8000 volunteers and the City of Yuma worked together to build and fund the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground, which was named in honor of her late husband. The idea and initial seed money of $100,000 came from Ron Martin, a close friend of Stewart Vincent Wolfe. The balance was funded by community contributions. Local school students provided input on the playground’s design, and the volunteers of all ages worked together on the actual construction.

Sadly, in late 2015, most of the playground was destroyed by an arson fire. The community immediately pulled together again to rebuild, and while the insurance helped fund most of the new playground, it was the donations that helped make it “Bigger, Better, and Safer.”   The Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground re-opened in May 2018 with some fun and fantastic ADA additions that include a zipline, a giant TriNet climbing structure, and a comfort swing.

The Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground is located in West Wetlands Park, at 282 N. 12th Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364. Info: (928) 373-5200.
