EXPLORE FLORIDA!
Florida, Spanish for “land of flowers” and nicknamed the “Sunshine State,” was admitted to the Union as the 27th US State on March 3 1845. It has the longest coastline of the contiguous USA, which includes approximately 4510 barrier islands. It has 12 National Park units.

 

Florida is also home to 175 State Parks and 9 State Trails, 3 National Forests and 1 National Trail, approximately 30 National Wildlife Refuges, and 2 Wild & Scenic Rivers. There are 1700 Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places and 42 of those are National Historic Landmarks, 18 National Natural Landmarks, and 1 World Heritage Site.
