Alabama has 3 National Monuments, Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument, Freedom Riders National Monument and the Russell Cave National Monument. There is also the Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site and the Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site.

There are 2 National Trails, the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail and the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, as well as the Little River Canyon National Preserve, the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, and the Natchez Trace Parkway.

In addition, there are approximately 26 State Parks, 4 National Forests, 11 National Wildlife Refuges, and 1 Wild & Scenic River. Alabama has approximately 1263 places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 38 National Historic Landmarks, and 7 National Natural Landmarks.
