EXPLORE MICHIGAN!
The State of Michigan is thought to have more public golf courses, lighthouses and registered boats than any other state and residents and visitors are surrounded by water. It has two peninsulas that are separated by the Straits of Mackinac. The Great Lakes that border Michigan are Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and the state contains more than 11,000 inland lakes. Michigan became our 26th state on January 26,1837, and it carries the nicknames The Wolverine State, the Great Lakes State and Water Wonderland.

Michigan is home to 7 national park units and has approximately 103 State Parks and 6 State Forests, 4 National Forests, 8 National Wildlife Refuges, and 16 Wild & Scenic Rivers. There are 1906 Places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 42 National Historic Landmarks, and 12 National Natural Landmarks.

“Home of my heart, I sing of thee! Michigan, My Michigan, Thy lake-bound shores I long to see, Michigan, my Michigan. From Saginaw’s tall whispering pines to Lake Superior’s farthest mines, Fair in the light of memory shines Michigan, my Michigan.” Winifred Lee Brent Lyster 1862
